To "lock" a row in Excel actually involves protecting the worksheet to prevent accidental or unauthorized changes. You cannot lock a row in the sense of preventing it from being visible or used, but you can prevent users from editing it. Here's how to do that:
Unlock Cells: By default, all cells in an Excel worksheet are locked. To allow editing of most cells while protecting specific rows, you first need to unlock all the cells that you want to be editable. Select the entire worksheet by clicking the triangle in the upper-left corner. Right-click anywhere in the selected area and choose "Format Cells..." Go to the "Protection" tab and uncheck the "Locked" box. This makes all cells unlockable after sheet protection is activated.
Lock Specific Rows: Select the row(s) you want to protect from editing. Right-click on the selected row(s) and choose "Format Cells..." Go to the "Protection" tab and ensure the "Locked" box is checked.
Protect the Worksheet: Go to the "Review" tab and click "Protect Sheet." A dialog box will appear. You can optionally set a password to prevent others from unprotecting the sheet. Ensure that "Protect worksheet and contents of locked cells" is checked. Select the actions that users will be allowed to do, such as "Select locked cells" and "Select unlocked cells." Click "OK."
Now, the rows you selected in step 2 will be locked from editing, while the rest of the worksheet (excluding the protected rows) remains editable, assuming you unlocked those other cells in Step 1.
